The authors give different existence results for \(L^p([a,b]),p\geq 1,\) and \(C([a,b])\)-solutions of the following Hammerstein and Volterra type integral equations: \[ x(t)=g(t)+\int\limits_{a}^{b} K(t,s)f(s,x(s))ds, \quad -\infty<a\leq t\leq b<+\infty \tag{1} \] and \[ x(t)=g(t)+\int\limits_{a}^{t} K(t,s)f(s,x(s))ds, \quad a\leq t\leq b.\tag{2} \] The main tools in the proofs are Schaefer's and Schauder's fixed point theorems combined with a general version of Gronwall's inequality. Moreover, an effective numerical method for the approximation of the solution of (2) is suggested. Finally, the paper is provided with some illustrative numerical results.
