The Schrödinger equation in a finite-dimensional space as an equation is obtained as the result of a the variational principle such that the Lagrange-Hamilton formalism applies. Modified Schrödinger equations involving second-order time derivatives are discussed. In this connection, nonlinear systems on manifolds of second-order tensors occur and are treated in some details.
