We show that if X is a Lévy process with a regularly varying exponent function and a local time, \(L^ x_ t\), that satisfies a mild continuity condition, then for an appropriate function \(\phi\) \[ \phi - m\{s\leq t| X_ s=x\}=L^ x_ t\quad \forall t\geq 0,\quad x\in {\mathbb{R}}\quad a.s. \] Here \(\phi\)-m(E) denotes the Hausdorff \(\phi\)- measure of the set E. In particular, if X is a stable process of index \(\alpha >1\), this solves a problem of the third author and \textit{J. G. Wendel}, Z. Wahrscheinlichkeitstheor. Verw. Geb. 6, 170-180 (1966; Zbl 0178.527). We also prove that under essentially the same conditions, a construction of \(L^ 0_ t\) due to \textit{J. F. C. Kingman} [J. Lond. Math. Soc., II. Ser. 6, 725-731 (1973; Zbl 0283.60080)], in fact holds uniformly over all levels.
