The authors, who earlier developed the ''plastic mode'' method, which is a generalization of the plastic hinge in the finite-element analysis of plates and solids [e.g. the first author and \textit{T. Yao}, ibid. 34, 1089-1104 (1982; Zbl 0497.73037)], have here extended their plastic node method to thermal elasto-plastic and dynamic problems. The appropriate stiffness equations are derived and several examples of the application of this new theory are demonstrated. Of interest to numerically inclined researchers and practitioners.
