In this interesting note the author computes the eta invariant for odd dimensional spheres of constant curvature under a free isometric action of a finite cyclic group, i.e., for lens spaces, using formulas developed by Atiyah-Patodi-Singer and by H. Donnelly. He also makes some interesting remarks about the relationship of this invariant to the principal curvatures of isoparametric hypersurfaces in spheres. Moreover some physical implications about anomalies related to the eta invariant, now interpreted as a Chern-Simons-type invariant, is discussed, especially in connnection with the double suspension encountered in the Bott periodicity theorem.
