A recent estimate of \textit{H. Iwaniec} [Invent. Math. 87, 385-401 (1987)] for certain Fourier coefficients of a holomorphic cusp form of weight half an odd integer is extended to include a class of Maass forms. Several applications are given, in particular the uniform distribution of Heegner points and cycles on the hyperbolic surface PSL(2,\({\mathbb{Z}})\setminus H\).
