In this work three different methods are developed for allocation of fixed sample size to different strata jointly for several characters. The first uses the minimization of total cost for fixed variance of the sum of estimated means of the several characters. The second solution is obtained as the minimization of an \(L_ 1\)-norm subject to certain linear constraints. The third frames the problem as one of minimization of \(L_ 2\)-norm, the solution of which is obtained through a quadratic programming algorithm. The merits of the methods developed are compared with some of the existing methods, through a numerical example.
