Let E be a complex oriented generalized homology theory. Then \(E_*BU(1)=E_*\{\beta_ 0,...,\beta_ n,...\},\) \(E_*BU=E_*[\beta_ 0,...,\beta_ n,...]\) and \(E_*BSU\) is a polynomial algebra contained in \(E_*BU\). Using the Gysin sequence and the formal group law, the author constructs elements \(P_ n\subset E_{2n}BSU\), \(n\geq 2\). Using the Atiyah-Hirzebruch spectral sequence and a criterion for detecting polynomial generators of \(H_*BSU\) [\textit{S. O. Kochman}, Proc. Am. Math. Soc. 84, 149-154 (1982; Zbl 0483.55013)], he proves that the \(P_ n\) are polynomial generators for \(E_*BSU\).
