In an earlier paper [Rend. Semin. Mat. Univ. Padova 71, 287-328 (1984; Zbl 0557.35037)] the author studied weak solutions to the following Dirichlet problem \[ \sum^{n}_{i,j=1}\partial_ i(a_{ij}\partial_ ju)+\sum^{n}_{i=1}b_ i\partial_ iu+(c+\lambda)u=f\quad in\quad R^ n_+;\quad u(x',0)=\phi (x'). \] Here the coefficient functions \(a_{ij}\), \(b_ i\), c satisfy some weak regularity conditions, the differential operator is assumed to be uniformly elliptic and the boundary data \(\phi\) is in \(L^ 2(R^{n- 1}).\) In the present paper the author extends these results to include more singular coefficients \(b_ i\) and c (i.e. allows the coefficient to be more singular near the boundary of \(R^ n_+)\) and boundary data in certain weighted \(L^ 2\)-spaces. The paper contains results on the trace of weak solutions of the equation. These results are used to prove both existence and uniqueness properties of the boundary value problem given above. In the paper the statement that \(u=\phi\) on the boundary, is given a precise meaning.
