The authors consider a population which is divided into n discrete neighbourhoods. Individuals can interact randomly within a neighbourhood and also an interaction between individuals from different neighbourhoods can happen because of attendance at common social functions. There are also natural assumptions about the infection process. The matrix approach is used. The main result of the paper is to show the existence of the unique threshold for disease maintenance.
