The authors consider the variational iteration method (VIM) and the modified variational iteration method (MVIM) proposed by \textit{T. A. Abassy}, \textit{M. A. El-Tawil} and \textit{H. El Zoheiry} [J. Comput. Appl. Math. 207, No.~1, 137--147 (2007; Zbl 1119.65096)] in order to obtain an approximate series solution to the generalized Fisher's equation which converges to the exact solution in the region of convergence. It is also shown that the application of VIM to the generalized Fisher's equation leads to the calculation of unneeded terms for a series solution. An error comparison is made between VIM and MVIM, showing that MVIM is more effective than VIM.
