A \(\varphi\)-symmetric Sasakian manifold is defined, essentially, as a Sasakian manifold which is a line bundle, or circle bundle, over a Hermitian symmetric space. The bundle projection is always a Riemannian submersion. The authors solve the problem which Hermitian symmetric spaces are bases of \(\varphi\)-symmetric Sasakian manifolds (there is a topological obstruction to such existence). If the corresponding Sasakian manifold exists, it is uniquely determined by its base space.
