The authors obtain weak solutions of the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations from a well-defined microscopic model without any smoothness assumptions at the macroscopic scale. First one introduces the stochastic lattice gas model and then one gives a heuristic derivation of the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations from this model, assuming local equilibrium.
