The present paper is the counterpart of \textit{C. Y. Chan} [Automatica 33, 999-1002 (1997; Zbl 0876.93049)]. A class of linear minimum phase systems with coloured noise is considered. A discrete adaptive sliding-mode controller is developed using an input-output model. It is shown that the controller leads to system stability and that the mean-square deviation from the sliding surface is minimized. Simulation results illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed strategy.
