Let \((X,Y)\) be a smooth projective compactification of \(\mathbb{C}^ 3\) with the second Betti number \(b_ 2(X)=1\). Then it is known that \(X\) is a Fano threefold with \(\text{Pic} X \cong \mathbb{Z} {\mathcal O}_ X(Y)\), where \(Y\) is ample (irreducible) divisor on \(X\). Moreover, the canonical divisor \(K_ X\) is written as \(K_ X \sim-rY\) \((0<r \leq 4, r \in \mathbb{Z})\). This integer \(r:=r(X)\) is called the index of \(X\). In the case of the index \(r \geq 2\), such an \((X,Y)\) is completely classified by the author, N. Nakayama, Th. Peternell and M. Schneider. In the case of \(r=1\), it is also known that (boundary) divisor \(Y\) is nonnormal irreducible. In this paper, the author proves the following Main Theorem. Let \((X,Y)\) be a smooth projective compactification of \(\mathbb{C}^ 3\) with \(b_ 2(X)=1\). Assume that the index \(r=1\). Then, (1) \(X\) is a Fano threefold (of the index one) with the genus \(g:={1 \over 2} (-K_ X)^ 3+1=12\) and \(Y\) is a (nonnormal) hyperplane section of \(X\) whose singular locus is a line \(\ell\) with the normal bundle \(N_{\ell | X} \cong {\mathcal O}_ \ell(-2) \oplus {\mathcal O}_ \ell (1)\). (2) \(\text{mult}_ \ell Y=2\) or 3, where \(\text{mult}_ \ell Y\) is the multiplicity of \(Y\) at a generic point of \(\ell\). It is also proved such a compactification really exists. The main theorem completes classification of projective compactifications \((X,Y)\) of \(\mathbb{C}^ 3\) with \(b_ 2(X)=1\).
