In a CAM-environment, tool paths are usually described by means of circular arcs and straight line segments, while in a CAD-environment, the objects are mostly designed by \(B\)-splines or Bézier curves. Therefore, there are needed methods for approximating given Bézier curves by piecewise arcs and line segments. The authors propose a method for finding a circular arc spline, which approximates a given quadratic Bézier curve up to a desired accuracy; they use bi-arcs which interpolate certain points on the given Bézier curve. Three numerical examples illustrate the proposed algorithm.
