This paper is concerned with the application of the so-called abstract schemes (AS) for the construction of shape preserving interpolating planar curves. In particular the authors describe a new approach with good performances, comparable with the best existing techniques, based on a discretisation of the continuous scheme, which makes AS implementable, for instance, for parametric interpolation problems. Moreover they aim to underline that the presented method is general enough to be useful to address specific problems. Finally examples for \(C^1\) cubic and \(C^2\) polynomial curves with numerical results, comparisons and conclusions are reported.
