The following problem is investigated: \[ \partial u/\partial t- D(x,t,u)\Delta u=f;\quad u|_ G=g,\quad u|_{S_ T}=0, \] G denotes a closed domain in \(R^ n\), \(S_ T=\partial G\times [0,T]\). The aim is to find conditions under which the problem above has solutions in a certain Sobolev space. f is a given function in \(L_ 2(G,H)\), H is a given Hilbert space and g an element of a certain Sobolev space. (The precise explanations of Sobolev spaces which occur in the paper was given in a previous paper of the author [ibid. 3, 457-479 (1984)].) Conditions are formulated which guarantee the existence of solutions in the considered Sobolev space and a theorem is formulated which says, if among others D(x,t,z) fulfills a Lipschitz condition with respect to z, then the solution is unique.
