The boundary of the cylindrical surface is subjected to (a) a step input of stress and zero temperature and (b) a step input of temperature and zero stress. In both the cases the solutions have been obtaind in the closed form. The uncoupled transient solutions have been derived. The numerical computations for three particular cases of zinc, magnesium and cobalt are carried out for both coupled and uncoupled solutions and the graphs are presented for comparison.
