For a body containing an ellipsoidal cavity and consisting of an isotropic elastic material of harmonic type defined by \textit{F. John} [Comm. Pure Appl. Math. 19, 309-341 (1966; Zbl 0139.434)] in terms of a special stored-energy function allowing also for compressibility, a class of equilibrium solutions is derived by an inverse method. A particular solution is found in the form of a potential deformation which fulfills the equilibrium equations of the stress field. Then the tractions required to maintain this deformation are determined. The result is a combination of a stress applied at the infinity of the body and of a uniform pressure applied at the cavity wall.
