Die Form ist ein Circumzenithalkreis, dessen Radius \(k\) nach der Formel \(\cos k = \sqrt {n^2 - \cos^2h}\) theoretisch bestimmt wird (\(h\) = Sonnenhöhe, \(n\) = Brechungsindex des Lichts in Eisnadeln). Ein solcher Bogen wurde am 8. October 1895 zu Loenen an der Vecht zwischen 7 und 8 Uhr Morgens beobachtet.
