In this paper the results of \textit{V. E. Hoggatt} jun. and \textit{G. L. Alexanderson} [Fibonacci Q. 14, 117-125 (1976; Zbl 0358.05004)] concerning the computation of combinatorial sums of the form \[ S_ n(m,q)=\sum_{j} \binom{n}{mj+q},\quad q=0,1,...,m-1 \] are generalized.
