The paper deals with a nonlinear, in particular degenerate, parabolic problem. Such problems arise, e.g., in mathematical models for gas or fluid flow in porous media and for the spread of certain biological populations. The existence and uniqueness of globally bounded weak solutions or blow-up, depending on the relations between some parameters, is studied.
