Let \(D\) be a first order operator of Dirac type on a compact Riemannian manifold with smooth boundary. Impose spectral boundary conditions, i.e. boundary conditions of APS type, to define the realization of \(D\). Using a general theory for relative spectral invariants, the author studies the associated zeta regularization of the functional determinant and computes the zeta-determinant ratio for the Dirac Laplacian boundary problem in terms of the scattering Fredholm determinant over the boundary. Note that the functional determinant appears in mathematical physics to define path integrals in QFT and string theory.
