This book consists of eight chapters starting with the introduction, the motivation, some definitions and the outline of the thesis. In the second chapter some basic lot sizing models are considered. They are classified as big-bucket or small-bucket models or hybrid versions of those. Generalizations of the basic models are the main focus of chapter 3. These generalizations include setup carry-over, lots spanning over several periods and setups over several periods. Chapter 4 is a review of the state-of-the-art. The author introduces various models that arise in process industries. Chapter 5 concentrates on the description of advanced planning systems. Chapter 6 consists of mathematical models that can be used in standard MIP solvers, e.g. CPLEX and concludes with a decomposition heuristic in order to be able to consider large industrial problems. The analysis of solutions and the presentation of computational results can be found in chapter 7. The book concludes with a summary and outlook. This book can be considered as a comprehensive source and survey on discrete lot sizing models.
