Plate and support are assumed to be isotropic and to behave linearly elastic. The plate has a straight edge, and both the plate and the support are in plane strain deformation allowing for a two-dimensional approach. With the aid of the elastic reciprocal theorem, correct boundary conditions are set up. Special cases for various slenderness ratios of the plate and relative softness of support are discussed.
