Let \(X\) be a compact Hausdorff space and let \(C(X)\) be the Banach algebra of all continuous functions on \(X\). Recall that a function algebra \(A\) on a compact space \(X\) is a closed (with respect to the supremum norm) subalgebra of \(C(X)\) which contains the constants and for any two elements \(x_1, x_2\in X\) there exists \(f\in A\) such that \(f(x_1)\neq f(x_2)\). A subset \(\Delta\) of \(X\) is called boundary for \(A\) if each function in \(A\) assumes its maximum absolute value on \(\Delta\). Let \(\partial A\) be the Shilov boundary for \(A\), that is the unique minimal closed boundary for \(A\). A linear isometry \(T:A\to A\) is said to be of codimension \(n\) or finite codimensional if the range of \(T\) has codimension \(n\) in \(A\). In the paper under review the author proves that every such isometry can be represented as weighted composition mapping on a cofinite subset of the Shilov boundary \(\partial A\). In the particular case of codimension 1 linear isometries of \(C(X)\), the author improves the classification provided by \textit{A. Gutek}, \textit{D. Hart}, \textit{J. Jamison} and \textit{M. Rajagopalan} in [J. Funct. Anal. 101, 97-119 (1991; Zbl 0818.47028)].
