If f: \(M_ 1\to M_ 2\) is a CR homeomorphism between open connected \(C^{\infty}\) smooth pseudoconvex hypersurfaces in \({\mathbb{C}}^ n\) and \(M_ 1\) and \(M_ 2\) are of finite type in the sense of \textit{J. D'Angelo} [Ann. Math., II.Ser. 115, 615-637 (1982; Zbl 0488.32008)] then f must be a local \(C^{\infty}\) diffeomorphism. As a consequence of the result above which is proved in this paper, the author obtains the following extension result: If f: \(M_ 1\to M_ 2\) is a CR homeomorphism between real-analytic hypersurfaces in \({\mathbb{C}}^ n\) which are of finite type (in the above sense), the f extends holomorphically to an open set in \({\mathbb{C}}^ n\) which contains \(M_ 1\).
