In general, it is difficult to determine the dimension of the space of Siegel modular forms with low weight. Here the author considers the spaces of modular forms belonging to the principal congruence subgroup of level 3 as the representation spaces of the finite symplectic group to calculate their dimensions. The author also derives the following generating function identity: \[ \sum_{k=0}^\infty \dim M_k(\Gamma_2(3)) t^k = {{1+t+t^2+6 t^3 + 6 t^4 + t^5 + t^6 + t^7}\over{(1-t)^4}}. \] \textit{E. Freitag} and \textit{R. Salvatti Manni} [Transform. Groups 9, No. 3, 237--256 (2004; Zbl 1116.11030)] derived the above identity by a different method.
