This is a systematically written textbook on shock dynamics which can be useful in teaching this subject to graduate students of any university. In fact, this book is an outcome of lectures delivered by Professor Han in USA, Japan, China etc. The authors present mathematically the dynamic phenomena of shock wave propagation, diffraction, reflection, refraction and interaction. The problems of shock dynamics are divided into two categories: i) shocks propagating into a quiescent gas, and ii) in a moving gas. In part (i), the interactions of moving shocks with a stationary body, and in (ii) with a moving body are discussed, respectively. The book itself is subdivided into three parts. The first four chapters (1-4) are devoted to part (i), the next three chapters (5-7) are devoted to part (ii), and the remaining chapters 8-10 discuss the Mach reflection of shocks in the steady, pseudosteady, and unsteady flows as well as shock refractions at gas interfaces and interactions between shocks. In all the topics, the mathematical equations are derived systematically. In the reviewers opinion, the value and usefulness of this book could be more if some excercises were added to each chapter, so that students could get a better insight into this important topic.
