The authors evaluate the function \[ F_{(a,b)}(x)=\sum_{n=-\infty}^{\infty} \sum_{m=-\infty}^{\infty} \frac{(-1)^{m+n}}{(xm)^2+(an+b)^2} \] for any positive rational value of \(x\) and for many pairs of positive integers \((a,b)\). Their starting point is the formula \[ F_{(a,b)}(x)=-\frac{2\pi}{ax} \sum_{j=0}^{a-1} \omega^{-(2j+1)b} \log \Big(\prod_{m=0}^{\infty} (1-\omega^{2j+1}q^{2m+1})(1-\omega^{-2j-1}q^{2m+1})\Big), \] where \(\omega=e^{\pi i/a}\), \(q=e^{-\pi/x}\), \(\Re(x)>0\) and \(a,b\) are integers satisfying \(a \geq 2\) and \((a,b)=1\). Then they obtain some simplifications for \(a \leq 6\) (which correspond to Ramanujan's notebooks) and for even values of \(a\) greater than \(6\) (which are related to the Jacobian elliptic functions).
