The authors reconsider the generalized Laguerre polynomials \(L_n^{(\alpha)}(x)\) defined by \[ L_n^{(\alpha)}(x)= (-1)^nn!\sum^n_{j=0} {{(n-1)^j} \over{j!}} {{n+\alpha} \choose {n-j}}x^j,\qquad n\geq 0 \] and suppose that the value of the real parameter \(\alpha\) is not restricted. In this case, they show that the sequence \(L_n^{(\alpha)}(x)\) are orthogonal with respect to a certain nondiagonal Sobolev inner product \((.,.)_s^{(k,\alpha+k)}\) of the form \[ (f,g)_s^{(k,\alpha)}= \int_0^{+\infty} F(x)M(k) G(x)^Tx^\alpha x^{-x} dx. \] Here \(k=\max\{0,[-\alpha]\}\) with \([A]\) denoting the greatest integer less than or equal to \(A\) while \(F(x)\) and \(G(x)\) stand for the vectors \((F(x),F'(x),\dots, F^{(k)}(x))\) and \((g(x),g'(x),\dots, g^{(k)}(x))\), respectively. As to the matrix \(M(k)\), it is a positive definite matrix with determinant equal to 1.
