The main aim of this paper is the investigation of the spectral theory of graph Laplacians of certain rooted trees. Trees in the class considered here can be generated by substitution processes. From the summary: ``Their spectra are shown to be purely absolutely continuous and to consist of finitely many bands. The main result gives stability of the absolutely continuous spectrum under sufficiently small radially label symmetric perturbations for non-regular trees in this class. In sharp contrast, the absolutely continuous spectrum can be completely destroyed by arbitrary small radially label symmetric perturbations for regular trees in this class.'' From the Introduction: ``The paper is organised as follows. In Section~2 we introduce our model and present the results. Basic properties of the resolvents of operators are studied in Section~3. In particular, the recursion relations of resolvents play a crucial role in the analysis. These can be translated into a system of polynomial equations (see Section~4), and into a fixed point equation of a recursion map (see Section~5). Finally, using these viewpoints on the recursion relations, the proofs of our main results are given in the last section.'' The paper is interesting and will be especially useful to young researchers.
