In this paper, the authors provide a new approach to large \(N\)-limits using the Batalin-Vilkovisky formalism. First, the authors recall the basic homological algebra that provides the underpinnings of this paper. The definitions of cyclic \(A_{\infty}\) and \(L_{\infty}\)-algebras and their cohomology are recalled. Relevant fundamental results are also reviewed. The basic framework of the Batalin-Vilkovisky formalism is also reviewed. Then the noncommutative BV formalism is described. Moreover, the application to random matrix theory is discussed. Finally, the authors introduce the general framework which applies both to commutative and noncommutative geometry. They demonstrate how this formalism leads to a recurrence relation, allowing to compute all multi-trace correlation functions. Harer-Zagier relations are also expressed using this formalism.
