In convex geometry, an interesting problem is the extremal volume sections which has received considerable attention. In the paper under review, the authors find minimal and maximal length of intersections of lines at a fixed distance to the origin with the cross-polytope. A corresponding result for the $n$-dimensional cube $B_{\infty}^n=[-1,1]^n$ was obtained by Moody, Stone, Zach and Zvavitch [\textit{J. Moody} et al., Fields Inst. Commun. 68, 211--228 (2013; Zbl 1270.52008)].
