Uncountable families of metric compactifications of the ray (Q2250121): Difference between revisions

The authors study the problem of the existence of compactification of the ray with a given continuum as remainder. They prove that for each nondegenerate metric continuum \(P\) there are uncountably many non homeomorphic compactifications of the ray \([1,\infty[\) with \(P\) as the remainder. This result generalizes others in the literature, where \(P\) is a given continuum, like the arc or the pseudo-arc.
