\textit{D. Kazhdan} and \textit{G. Lusztig} have defined certain polynomials \(P_{y,w}\) (y,w\(\in W)\) associated to a Coxeter group W [Invent. Math. 53, 165-184 (1979; Zbl 0499.20035)]. If W is a Weyl group, these polynomials (or their values at 1) gives multiplicities of irreducible constituents in the Jordan-Hörder series of Verma modules for a complex semi-simple Lie algebra corresponding to W. Also, if W is an affine Weyl group, it has been conjectured by Lusztig that these polynomials or their values at 1 enter the character formula of irreducible rational representations for a semi-simple algebraic group (corresponding to W) over an algebraically closed field of prime characteristic. In this paper, the author gives some formula corresponding to Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials \(P_{y,w}\) for affine Weyl groups which appear in this Lusztig conjecture. The main result shows that any polynomial \(P_{y,w}\) for w ''dominant'' is completely determined by the polynomials \(P_{y',w'}\) for w' ''restricted''. Also, the formula together with the Steinberg tensor product theorem reduces the Lusztig conjecture to the special case of the conjecture where highest weights are restricted. Further, the author gives a formula concerning the generic Kazhdan- Lusztig polynomials \(\hat P_{y,w}\). Comparing these two formulas on \(P_{y,w}\) and \(\hat P_{y,w}\), he proves another conjecture of Lusztig relating those \(P_{y,w}\) to \(\hat P_{y,w}\).
