In the paper under review, \(B\) will denote a strictly convex Banach space with norm \(\| \cdot \|\) and \(\Gamma\) will denote a finitely generated group with generating set \(K\). Let \(\pi\) be a linear isometric action of \(\Gamma\) on \(B\) and let \(c : \Gamma \rightarrow B\) be a \(\pi\)-cocycle. Indicate by \(Z^1(\pi)\) the linear space consisting of all \(\pi\)-cocycles. The space \(Z^1(\pi)\) is endowed with a norm \(\| \cdot \|_r\) for each \(r \in [1, \infty]\). Denote by \(\mathcal{A}(\pi)\) the set of affine isometric actions whose linear part is \(\pi\). So if \(\alpha \in \mathcal{A}(\pi)\), then there exists \(c \in Z^1(\pi)\) such that \(\alpha(\gamma, v ) = \pi(\gamma, v) + c(\gamma)\) for each \(\gamma \in \Gamma\) and \(v \in B\). For \(\alpha \in \mathcal{A}(\pi)\) and \(1 \leq r \leq \infty\) a convex function \(F_{\alpha, r} : B \rightarrow [0, \infty)\) is defined via \[ F_{\alpha,r}(v) = \| \alpha(\cdot, v)-v \|_r \] for each \(v \in B\) and \(1 \leq r \leq \infty\). Observe that \(F_{\alpha, r}\) vanishes at \(v_0\) if and only if \(v_0\) is a fixed point of \(\alpha\). Next, the absolute gradient \(| \nabla\!\!\_F_{\alpha, r}| : B \rightarrow [0, \infty)\) of \(F_{\alpha, r}\) is defined. The two main results of this paper are: {\parindent=6mm \begin{itemize} \item[-] The following are equivalent: \item [-] There is a positive constant \(C'\) such that every \(v \in B\) satisfies \[ \max_{\gamma \in K} \| \pi(\gamma, v) - v \| \geq C' \| v \|. \] \item [-] There is a positive constant \(C\) such that every \(v \in B \setminus \{0\}\) satisfies \[ |\nabla\!\!\_ F_{\pi, r} |(v) \geq C. \] \item [-] The following are equivalent: \item [-] Every \(\alpha \in \mathcal{A}(\pi)\) has a fixed point. \item [-] For every \(\alpha \in \mathcal{A}(\pi)\), there is a positive constant \(C\) such that every \(v \in B\) with \(F_{\alpha, r}(v) > 0\) satisfies \[ | \nabla\!\!\_ F_{\alpha, r }| (v) \geq C. \] Furthermore, \(C\) can be a constant independent of each \(\alpha\). \end{itemize}} The author concludes the paper by applying there results to the case \(B = \ell^p(\Gamma)\) and \(\pi\) the left regular representation of \(\Gamma\).
