Let \(\mathcal{M}\) be a von Neumann algebra, acting on a Hilbert space H, with commutant \(\mathcal{M} \otimes_{\sigma h} \mathcal M\), the normal Haagerup tensor product to which corresponds a completely bounded \(\mathcal{M}'\)-bimodule map \(\Phi_{\chi}\) on the space \(B(H)\) of all bounded linear operators on \(H\). Further, \(\Phi_{\chi}\) is weak\(^*\) continuous exactly when \(\chi \in \mathcal{M} \otimes_{e h} \mathcal{M}\), the extended Haagerup tensor product. In the present paper, the authors discuss how certain invariance properties of the completely bounded bimodule map \(\Phi_{\chi}\) are reflected in its symbol \(\chi\). The authors then apply these results to \(L^{\infty}(\mathbb{G})\), the von Neumann algebra of a locally compact quantum group \(\mathbb{G}\), to characterize the completely bounded \(L^{\infty}(\mathbb{G})'\)-bimodule maps that send \(C_0(\hat{\mathbb{G}} )\) into \(L^{\infty}(G)\) in terms of the properties of the corresponding elements of the normal Haagerup tensor product \(L^{\infty}(\mathbb{G}) \otimes_{\sigma h} L^{\infty}(\mathbb{G})\). Ultimately, the authors provide a characterization of the normal completely bounded \(L^{\infty}(\mathbb{G})'\)-bimodule maps that leave \(L^{\infty}(\hat{\mathbb{G}})\) invariant, separately for the commutative and the co-commutative cases.
