Theoretical justifications of finite differences regridding criteria for time-dependent one-dimensional transport and heat equations are discussed in relation to an earlier work of the author and \textit{F. A. Oliveira} [ISNM, Int. Ser. Numer. Math. 86, 391-401 (1988; Zbl 0657.65110)]. The main contribution of the paper is the characterization of the mesh density (co-ordinate transform) which improves the spatial accuracy of the approximation in the physical space (computational space).
