Consider a percolation process in \(d\) dimensions with density \(p\), and let \(\tau(x,y)\) be the probability that there is an open path joining \(x\) to \(y\). The `triangle condition' is that \(\nabla (p_ c)<\infty\), where \(\nabla(p)=\sum_{x,y}\tau(0,x)\tau(x,y)\tau(y,0)\). When the triangle condition holds, then certain critical exponents (particularly \(\delta\) and \(\hat\beta\)) exist and take on their mean-field values. This conclusion is achieved by the derivation of a collection of differential inequalities for the order parameter \(M(p,h)\), where \(h\) is the strength of an external `ghost' field. \textit{T. Hara} and \textit{G. Slade} [Commun. Math. Phys. 128, No. 2, 333-391 (1990; Zbl 0698.60100)] have shown that the triangle condition holds for sufficiently large \(d\), and for a sufficiently `spread-out' model when \(d\geq 7\).
