For \(n\geq 2\), the \(n\)-step model filiform algebra \(f_{\mathbb R}^n\) is an \((n+1)\)-dimensional Lie algebra over \(\mathbb R\) that has a basis \(\{e_1,e_2,\dots, e_{n+1}\}\) with bracket relations \([e_1, e_j]=e_{j+1}\) for \(2\leq j\leq n\). The \(n\)-step model filiform group \(F_{\mathbb R}^n\) is the connected and simply connected Lie group with Lie algebra \(f_{\mathbb R}^n\). The 2-dimensional subspace \(V_1\) spanned by \(e_1\) and \(e_2\) determines a so-called horizontal distribution that is left-invariant. The inner product on \(V_1\) such that \(\{e_1, e_2\}\) is an orthonormal basis induces a Carnot metric \(d_c\) on \(F_{\mathbb R}^n\). The author gives a characterization of quasiconformal homeomorphisms of \((F_{\mathbb R}^n, d_c)\) for \(n\geq 3\), as well as quasiconformal homeomorphisms of \((F_{\mathbb C}^n, d_c)\), where \(F_{\mathbb C}^n\) is the \(n\)-step model filiform group over \(\mathbb C\), defined similarly. For example, in the case of complex model filiform groups, a homeomorphism is quasiconformal if and only if it is a finite composition of left translations and graded isomorphisms. In particular, such maps are bi-Lipschitz and preserve multiple foliations. Similar results were established earlier under additional smoothness assumptions. In this paper the author does not impose any regularity assumptions on the quasiconformal maps, and, in particular, provides examples of non-smooth quasiconformal maps on \(F_{\mathbb R}^n\).
