The ``classical'' exact sequence \[ 1\to Pic(R) \to Cl(R) \to Bcl(R) \to Br(R) \to \beta(R) \] associated to any integrally closed noetherian domain \(R\) has been generalized by various authors to more general rings or to a categorical or torsion theoretic context. In the present paper, the authors start from a symmetric closed category \({\mathcal C}\) and associate to any cocommutative Hopf algebra \(H\) in \({\mathcal C}\) groups \(Pic ({\mathcal C}, H)\) resp. \(BM ({\mathcal C}, H)\) (the latter previously having been introduced by Fernández Vilaboa, and coinciding with the Brauer-Long group if \(H\) is a cocommutative algebra over a commutative ring \(R)\). The main theorem of this paper states that if \(F:{\mathcal C} \to {\mathcal C}'\) is a symmetric monoidal functor satisfying some technical (but harmless) supplementary conditions, then there is an exact sequence \[ Pic ({\mathcal C}, H) \to Pic \bigl( {\mathcal C}', F(H) \bigr) \to X\to BM ({\mathcal C}, H) \to BM \bigl({\mathcal C}', F(H) \bigr), \] where \(X\) is an intermediate group, which may be described by \(K\)-theoretic means.
