Let \(W(X)\) be a Coxeter group with \(X\) its Coxeter graph and \(\mathcal H(X)\) the associated Hecke algebra. The Kazhdan-Lusztig and \(R\)-polynomials of \(\mathcal H(X)\) play an important role in the representations of \(W(X)\) and \(\mathcal H(X)\) [see \textit{D. Kazhdan} and \textit{G. Lusztig}, Invent. Math. 53, 165-184 (1979; Zbl 0499.20035)]. The Temperley-Lieb algebra \(TL(X)\) is a quotient of \(\mathcal H(X)\) which is finite dimensional with a basis indexed by the fully commutative elements of \(W(X)\). The purpose of the present paper is to study two families of polynomials of \(TL(X)\) analogous to the Kazhdan-Lusztig and \(R\)-polynomials of \(\mathcal H(X)\). The author obtains some recursions, non-recursive formulas, symmetry properties and expressions for the constant terms of those polynomials. Most of the results in the paper hold for \(X\) being non-branching Coxeter graphs.
