Let \(X\) and \(Y\) be complex Banach spaces and \(T\in {\mathcal L}(X)\), \(S\in {\mathcal L}(Y)\) be bounded linear operators. An operator \(A\in {\mathcal L}(X,Y)\) intertwines \(T\) and \(S\) if \(AT=SA\). It is well-known that \(T\) and \(S\) have the same spectrum, and also particular parts of the spectrum, if \(A\) is a bijection. If the intertwined \(A\) is just a quasi-affinity, then this stability of parts of the spectrum fails in general. In the paper under review, Fredholm properties of operators intertwined by injective mappings are investigated. It is proved, for instance, that \(S\) is Fredholm whenever \(T\) is Fredholm, \(S\) has property \((\delta)\) in a neighborhood of \(0\), and the operators are intertwined by a pair of injective operators. There are many other interesting results which give necessary and sufficient local spectral conditions on intertwiners for the equality of some parts of the spectra of two bounded operators. The style is pleasant and the paper is well written.
