A subgroup \(A\) of a finite group \(G\) is called \(\Phi\)-isolator if \(A\) covers the Frattini chief factors of \(G\) and avoids the supplemented ones. The authors show that all the \(\Phi\)-isolators of \(G\) have the same order and that their normal core coincides with the Frattini subgroup of \(G\). Furthermore, they exhibite some relations with the pro-Frattini and pre-Frattini subgroups of \(G.\) If \(A\) is a \(\Phi\)-isolator of \(G\) then, for each \(g\in A\), the normal closure of \(\langle g\rangle\) is a pro-Frattini subgroup of \(G\). Moreover, if \(W\) is a pre-Frattini subgroup of \(G\), then \(A\) is contained in the normal closure of \(W.\) \textit{J. D. Gillam} [J. Algebra 29, 324--329 (1974; Zbl 0293.20017)] proved that not every \(\Phi\)-isolator is a pre-Frattini subgroup. However, from the results in the paper, it follows that if \(A\) is a \(\Phi\)-isolator of a soluble group \(G,\) then \(A\) is a pre-Frattini subgroup of \(G\) if and only if \(A\) permutes with a Hall system of \(G.\)
