    Let \(H_1\) and \(H_2\) be separable Hilbert spaces, \(B \in L(H_1,H_2)\), \(A \in L(H_2)\), \(A = A^*\), \(C \in L(H_1)\), \(C = C^*\), where \(L(H_1,H_2)\), \(L(H_1)\), and \(L(H_2)\) are the corresponding spaces of bounded linear operators. Assume that \(G(X) = X^*AX + B^*X + X^*B + C\) as a function of \(X \in L(H_1,H_2)\), \(M(A,B,C) = \{X : G(X) \leq 0\}\) and \(N(A,C) = M(A, 0,-C))\). The purpose of this paper is (i) to find conditions under which the sets \(N(A,C)\) and \(M(A,B,C)\) are nonempty or convex, (ii) to characterize their interior points, (iii) to consider certain conditions under which \(M(A,B,C)\) and \(N(A,C)\) are closed and sequentially closed in the weak operator topology. This work is motivated by applications of such sets in the study of linear fractional relations and may be considered as a continuation of \textit{V.\,A.\thinspace Khatskevich, M.\,I.\thinspace Ostrovskii} and \textit{V.\,S.\thinspace Shulman} [Math.\ Nachr.\ 279, No.\,8, 875--890 (2006; Zbl 1112.47011)].
