In this paper we prove the following result: Let \(q\) a rational integer, \(f\) an entire function of a complex variable, and let \[ M(f,R)=\max| f(z)|,\;| z|\leq R. \] Suppose that there exists a positive constant \(a\), less than \(1/2 \log q\), such that for \(R\) sufficiently large, \(M(f,R)\leq\exp(a \log R)^ 2)\), and that for all positive rational integers \(k\), \(f^{(k)}(q^ k)\in\mathbb{Z}\). Then \(f\) is a polynomial. The constant \(1/2 \log q\) is the best one, for it is shown that there exist an entire non-polynomial function \(f(z)\) such that \(f^{(k)}(q^ k)\in\mathbb{Z}\) for all \(k\) in \(\mathbb{N}\), and \(M(f,R)=\exp((\log R)^ 2/(2 \log q)+o((\log R)^ 2)\).
