The author proves the existence and asymptotic stability of periodic solutions for the Duffing equation \(x''+cx'+g(t,x)=0\), \(x(0)=x(2\pi)\), \(x'(0)=x'(2\pi)\). The proof uses topological degree theory, together with upper and lower solutions, taking advantage from a new maximum principle. An application is given to the equation modelling a pendulum with oscillating support.
