The authors extend the Log-effect, known for the wave equation with the time-dependent coefficient, to the general strictly hyperbolic \(2\times 2\)-systems \(\partial_t U-A(t)\partial_x U=0\) with oscillating coefficients. They prove results on \(H^\infty\) well- or ill-posedness of the Cauchy problem, and describe the precise loss of regularity. Finally, the authors discuss the cone of dependence property.
